Orthomolecular medicine

interpreted as a traditional medicine practice that uses prescriptive supplementation of micronutrients in the focus of disease prevention and treatment.

Micronutrients are essential for health, normal growth and development of living organisms. Micronutrients enable the ‘optimum molecular environment’ for normal physiological functioning.

The term was first conceived by Linus Pauling, PhD, in 1968 as published in his article “Orthomolecular Psychiatry” in “Science” journal.  He proposed the treatment of mental health disease by provision of the ‘optimum molecular environment’ for the mind, especially of concentrations of naturally present substances.  Pauling suggested that provision of notable micronutrients to balance naturally occurring biochemical constituents of the brain, would provide remediation for cognitive anomalies as alternatives to potent synthetic psychoactive medications.  Dr Pauling concluded that lifestyle practices of supplemental vitamins in optimal measures, in conjunction with a healthy diet would be essential in attaining health and longevity…

The influence of diet in relation to optimal health has long been understood throughout documented history.  Orthomolecular medicine is integrated into many approaches of nutritional treatment with the aim to achieve optimal health and vitality.
