Key Initiatives for community advocacy, action and resolve ….. At the heart of public policy my efforts will be to:

Firstly Listen to key stakeholders and engage in Community Consultation to continue to raise my awareness of issues and concerns and to be open to new ideas and suggestions

Local Council Initiatives:

  • Minimise Wasteful Spending
  • I think is it imperative to manage excessive spending to enable redirection of monies toward other projects within Division 2 and the Fraser Coast, particularly with the potential blowout costings that the new Hervey Bay Council build will cause ratepayers.
  • Advocate for the review of the regional Waste Management areas
  • The recent closure of the regional waste sites within Division 2 and the Fraser Coast saw a lot of residents disappointed.  The extra travel times imposed on the regional residents will contribute to the potential unwanted dumping of rubbish which will only increase the costs to council.
  • Provide road upgrade & drainage projects where prioritised and with focus for the Glenwood Community. For Tinana, support the review of the Tinana Place Shopping precinct entrance/exit to provide a much safer carriageway for traffic flow.
  • Support direction of Ratepayer contributions to be spent within Division 2 and advocate for Rates to stay under CPI in budgetary planning to enable monies to be spent on necessary works that have remained unaddressed for many years.
  • To retain the Maryborough Water and Sewerage Reservoir within the precinct of Maryborough and NOT be redirected to Hervey Bay.  In order to address the future management of water and sewerage in Hervey Bay, it is recommended to implement the use of water tanks in all new constructions and provide incentives for existing landowners to do the same. Additionally, explore the possibility of collaborating with the State Government and Fraser Island Land owners to utilize the island’s freshwater catchment for the benefit of Hervey Bay.

  • Decentralise the Maryborough Council Operations Centre to Tiaro where the administration staff can enjoy a permanent and stable home instead of moving between rented premises. This would also support the future growth of the Tiaro Town Centre
  • Promote Mental Health Support initiatives to achieve optimal health outcomes
  • Advocate for and support improved regional healthcare. I would like to support the implementation of a multidiscip linary healthcare centre to cater for the healthcare needs of Bauple, Gundiah, Glenwood, Tiaro and surrounds.  This will also promote local small business enterprise, bring greater health choices for improved community health and wellbeing outcomes and provide education for health and lifestyle
  • Support progress and growth of business enterprise and NFP organisations
  • Support provision of small business and community education initiatives for the towns of Tiaro and Bauple with focus on food business and healthy food selection aimed to attract more community and tourism patronage
  • Promote wildlife natural habitat preservation areas with rare animal species within Glenwood, Tiaro and surrounds

Initiatives for collaboration with the State Government Member

  • Find solutions to address the challenges that are faced by those affected by homelessness, domestic violence and youth crime.
  • For Youth Crime, this could be achieved by supporting organisations that engage with offending youth such as combat training camps and supported working programs.
  • For Homelessness, support the acquisition of suitable sites to supply alternative housing accommodation such as moveable dwellings.
  • For domestic violence, to provide support to DV organisations and to establish education programs for victims and offenders
  • I would like to advocate for the provision of a return public bus service that travels from Maryborough to Gympie

Initiatives for collaboration with the Federal Government Member

  • Advocate for supply of Remote and Regional digital communication infrastructure improvements across the lower section of Division 2
  • Introduce “Work for the Dole’ Scheme to the area to promote skill and active participation within community
  • Support the Tiaro Bypass Road Infrastructure Upgrade and Promote Tourism for the townships of Tiaro and Bauple
