Aromatherapy
Phytotherapy is the name given to the use of the whole, or part, of the plant for medicinal purposes. Aromatherapy and aromatic
medicine are branches of phytotherapy, however, only the distilled essential oils, expressed citrus oils and hydrolats are utilised.
Plant oils are simple to use and administer, however require specialist knowledge as these botanical constituents can compete with pharmaceutical medications such as steroids, antibiotics and anti-depressive medications that are prescribed in allopathic medicine.
Many plant extracts used in the production of conventional medicines are poisonous which is why they are used at exceptionally low doses. Some essential oils are also toxic when used incorrectly. Use of essential oils are highly beneficial when used under the guidance of a trained professional.
Essential oils are concentrated and intensely energetic in their effects and require dilution with carrier products for safe and successful applications. No apparent benefit is gained from application at higher concentrations. However, in some circumstances, first aid situations, may require undiluted or neat aromatherapy applications.
Essential Oils are powerful healers
Aromatherapy can be used in a variety of settings and by a variety of people. Whether you are at home, in the workplace, in the clinic, travelling within a foreign country or moving in local transit, aromatherapy can be of invaluable support.
Aromas can open the gateway of the mind and bring forth memories, emotions and/or feelings that can be intentionally directed. Situations from a past trauma that may require healing, knowledge during study periods that may need to be recalled, energy states that need to be uplifted … the list is infinite.
Since the beginning of recorded history, aromatic botanicals have been used. To enhance and promote beauty, pleasure, taste and/or healing. It has been used in bathing, massage, food products, healing balms, perfumery, during religious ceremonies, in preservation of mummies, to ward off evil spirits and disease.
Plants have a unique ability to survive in their natural habitat from predators and injury. They have internal mechanisms that produce chemicals that can have a multitude of effects, affects and benefits. Chemicals that can reduce inflammation (anti-inflammatory) when the plants are injured; can deter unwanted pests such as insects (repellents), can aid wounding (vulnerary / cicatrissant).
Synergistic botanical compounds behave as nature intended them to behave. Aromatherapy uses nature’s gifted botanical wisdom in support of therapeutic change and health outcomes.
